Application for the visa extension is available from 4 months before the expiration of visa.When not applying in this period, penalty may be imposed. As of January 1, 2013, immigration policy office has been implementing electronic civil service to improve the congestion in civil service as well as inconvenience of civilians. If applying the extension of the length of stay in HiKorea(www.hikorea.go.kr), 10% of the civil service commission is saved.

  • Master's program : Within 3 years for students preparing for dissertation after the completion (complete within 5 years after entering)
  • Doctoral program : Within 5 years for students preparing for disssertation after the completion (complete within 8 years after entering)

How to apply : Prepare for documents and apply for the extension

  • Online application : Scan related documents and apply through 'electronic civil service' on the immigration office website(www.hikorea.go.kr)
  • Visit and apply : Make reservation at immigration office website(www.hikorea.go.kr), print 'visiting reservation confirmation letter' and visit immigration office
  • Group application from international student support center : Due to high congestion in civil service on February/March and August/September, students shall apply in groups to the immigration office after receiving documents in international student support center.
